  1. In the olden days people used to write poems about their own places for example there was a man long ago who loved his own county so much that he wrote a poem about it. His name was Michael Flatery and he lived in Kells. The poem is as follows:-
    I love the dear old plains of Meath,
    Where the cows of all colours breathe.
    When in the mid-Summer weather,
    The hills are seen covered with heather."
    Here is some old poetry that was composed in the district of Kells:-
    Big Micky Lynch when he comes to a pinch,
    He hammers the drum so grand;
    And I do declare that you cannot compare,
    With the non-sectarian band.
    Kells Fire Brigade
    The fire brigade is led by brave Captain Marsh,
    Braver still than General Otis,
    He'd put out any fire on earth,
    But he must get three days notice
    There was a fly upon the wall
    It flew away and that was all.
