- The Headforts were good landlords. There were no evictions but people were punished for trespassing, taking timber, cutting down trees. If people were found poaching they were summoned and often got jail.
The Headforts gave clothes to the poor every Friday. Bread, soup, and meat were given too.
One day the Marquis was passing through the town of Kells on his way to a meeting in the Town Hall and some of the corner boys mocked him. So from that day out he never gave clothes or food in charity.- Collector
