  1. The war that was nearest to our house was the war which occured in Curraghtown, about a mile from our home. It was fought against the Irregulars and the Free State soldiers. It was fought inside in Curraghtown House and some men were killed.
The Irregulars were up in the House when the Free State soldiers came along and opened fire upon them, and one of the Irregulars was killed and one of the Free State soldiers wounded. The war lasted for a day and a night. Then the Irregulars were arrested by the Free State soldiers and tried and put to Prison in June 1922.
