    where a relief scheme was carried on and they used to get a canful of oaten porridge.
    Others used to live on roasted turnips. Many buildings were erected to help the famine fund including our school Kilbride N.S. and the belltower.

  2. The famine did not effect our district as much as others. The government gave employment to the people around our district because Kilbride National School and a bellfry was built during those times.
    The district was not to heavily populated so that helped. The people used to eat the grass along the roads with starvation.
