  1. The hurling and football matches of olden times differ with that of the present day. There was once a football match held in a field beside Athboy owned by Martins. The teams that were playing were Martinstown and Rathmore which were townland teams. They started the match at half past 3 o'clock one Sunday. It was largely attended by many people. There were twelve on each side. Rathmore was winning and at half time they were
