- There lived and old shoemaker near Athboy. One morning he arose very early to go out to shoot. He brought some wax with him. As he walked through the fields a hare got up out of some long grass beside him. He put his hand in his pocket and took out a roll of wax. It got soft and sticky but he put it on the gun. He fired at the hare and hit it on the forehead but did not kill the hare. Just as the hare ran out a gap, another hare came in the other direction and they ran into one another. The hares could not run so the man went up and got them.
