Many years ago basket making was carried on in this district. A man by the name of John Butterfield often went to the Boyne near Trim in a donkey and cart to get rushes. He would bring home a cart full of rushes to make baskets. He sold his baskets and made a good lot of money. John Butterfield died about thirty years ago.
