  1. A hedge school existed up to about 80 yrs ago near the present ball alley in Rathmore. The foundations of the little hut where the master & the pupils met feloniously to learn" can be still be traced. In the summer time the school was held in the open under the shadow of the fox-cover. The last hedge-school teacher was a Mr. Lynch.
