Old Schools. Told by Michael Halligan
There was an old hedge-school in Trimblestown. My Grand-mother was taught in this school. There were two teachers in it at the time namely Miss Tuite from Trim and Miss Martin from Bohermeen. Miss Tuite was a very hard teacher. She used to say to the children “I will box your ears so delightfully” In former years Mr. Reily and Mr. Rogers taught in the school. The children used to write on slates with slate pencils. The subjects they learned were Writing, Reading, and Spellings. It is about seventy years ago since the teachers taught in this school. There is a new house built on the spot where the school was first. It belongs to Mr. Traynor of Trimblestown. The school was called Philinstown school
