    His love not a thing can change it;
    The passion improves eternally,
    Though this earth's domain he range it -
    So delighted my soul, Mary dear, in thee,
    Nor time, nor fate can estrange it.
    Some magic spell stole away this heart,
    Ere while dark to all beside thee:
    Platonism gave away to Cupid's art
    When entranced first I eyed thee -
    And kneeling low, though his bosom smart
    Since I pray blest angels guide thee.
    I see thy smiles in the dawn of day,
    Thine eyes in the stars of heaven,
    That tender shine in that pensive ray
    By the lonely night queen given.
    And thy breath smells like the bloom of May,
    Or new mown down hay at even.
    How sweet to love such a being as thou,
    Could thy lover be regarded,
    And fondly hope with thy Virgin vow
    An a time to be rewarded;
    When to seal those rose-bud lips and brow
    Might no longer be retarded.
