    Black birds:- Crow, Jack-daw, water-hen, sparrow, wild-duck, blackbird, starling.
    Brown birds:- Thrush, wren, robin, teal, sky-lark, bog-lark, corn-crake, pheasant, snipe, owl, hawk, partridge.
    Black and white birds:- Swallow, magpie, wagtail.
    Slate coloured:- Wood-quest, seagull, plovers, cuckoo, crane, pigeon, curlew.
    Coloured bird:- Yellow hammer, gold-finch, chaff-finch, bull-finch, stone-chatter, linnet.
    The following birds go away:- Cuckoo, swallow, corn-crake, wild ducks.
    The following birds build in houses:- The swallow under the eave, the starling under the eave, the jack-daw in the chimney, the sparrow under the eave. The crow builds her nest in a tall tree. She builds it of sticks, paper and hair. She lays three blue eggs.
    The thrush, the wren, the robin and the blackbird build in the hedges. The thrush builds her nest with hay and mud. She lays five speckled brown eggs.
