- (continued from previous page)Before the famine this district was very thickly populated. The ruins of some houses which were there in that time are still to be seen but they are almost covered with grass. There were a house and forge near where I live. The people died out of that house too and the house and the forge fell. Some things made of iron are found near the place when the fields are being ploughed.
- Many people and animals died in the great famine. The potato crop failed and there was very little wheat saved. The cows gave very little milk because they were not fed well. Many people died of starvation.(continues on next page)
