  1. There are seven graveyards in the parish of Kilmessan namely -
    The New Cemetery in Kilmessan
    The Old Graveyard in Kilmessan
    Scurlogstown Graveyard
    Tara graveyard
    Balsoon graveyard
    Assey graveyard
    Claddy graveyard
    There is a new Cemetery situated in the townland of Kilmessan behind the Catholic Church.
    The old graveyard is also in the village of Kilmessan. This is a very old graveyard. There are also many of the graves and monuments there.
    These old dates are 1520, 1675, 1795, 1800, 1829, 1809, 1806, 1851, 1871. There are many old tombstones there. There is also a vault in it in which many rich people were buried. It is Preston's field. This graveyard is on a slope towards the East. Many families that are living now prefer to be buried in this old graveyard.
