    In the time fo the famine 1846-47 the people suffered greatly. The district was thickly populated before then.
    Old people still point out the sites of houses.
    At slugrum in Coole, Garadice, Kilcock 30 people are said to have left for America in one week.
    In bailearac Ardrums Agher Enfield several families left or were evicted. Their lands were taken over by the Barry family (rich graziers.)
