  1. The late Jim Mulligan, Kilmore, Co. Meath, used to make baskets out of sally rods for his own use.
    They were square with deep sides. He used one for bringing in plums, and the other for bringing in the potatoes. He painted them brown.
    Thatching.
    Tom Sheridan, Clonymeath, Summerhill, is the best thatcher around Moynalvey.
    He thatches with straw. He puts it on in sheaves. Before starting the thatching, he cuts the heads off with a kind of shears. He removes all rotten thatch with a small short handled
