  1. Local Poets
    There are a few local poets in this district though they are little known and did not write very much.
    Patrick Genahty, who was principal of this school, was born in Dullech in 1860 and came to Ashbourne in 1890.
    He died in the year 1936 and is buried in Killegland churchyard.
    He wrote the poem in "Moore's Alamnac" every year.
    This is the sort of thing he contributed.
    "The world around
    is just the same,
    As in grandfathers day
    The hills and the vales
    Still hold their owns,
    The flowers are just
    as gay,
    But that we ourselves are changing, we
    really must allow,
