  1. There was a blacksmith in Blackhall who was very famous for his brave deeds.
At the time of the battle of Tara a regiment of soldiers passed by Blackhall to it.
The captain's charger wanted a shoe so he went into the forge and got the horse shod.
Luckily the Blacksmith made the captain give him a guarantee that he would not shoot him, so he shod the horse and the captain went off.
The blacksmith who was also going to Tara went that evening, out by Dunsany and through Kilbrue.
When he came out on the road at Kilbrue whom did he meet only the captain that he shod the horse for that morning. That captain was going to shoot him but he thought of his promise and let him go.
Two gates made by that blacksmith are still to be seen in the vicinity - one in Mr Austin's tillage village opposite side of the road to Ballymaglassan Church - the other in Mr kelly's fields.
