  1. The Rev Edward Murray was Parish Priest of Johnstown from 1876 to 1890.
She says he was a great reader and a plain blunt man who spoke his mind.
He used to drive a jennet and car and he called the jennet Shaw.
When lecturing on Temperance he used to drive home his truths like this.
Now, when I bring Shaw to the big hole to drink he takes only what he wants. So why don't you also stop when you have enough.
Fr. Murray would take a lift on any sort of vehicle. One day he sat into the back of an ass cart and went along his legs dangling almost on the ground.
Some woman smiled broadly when she saw him. Turning on her furiously he said.
"Go in and wash your dirty face.
Our Lord rode into the streets of Jerusalem on an ass and why shouldn't I".
