Brick making was carried on in Oldtown by a man named Thoams Harpur.

Brick making was carried on in Oldtown by a man named Thomas Harpur. The field now belongs to a small farmer named Michael Jordon whose children are attending this school.
This man Harpur gave up the work on account of wet weather.

    Story of this brickyard...

Story of this brickyard told by Tom Neill Oldtown a near neighbour of Harpur.
Harpur kept the brickyard for a couple of years. Had a man from Slane making the bricks.
This man left and engaged with another brickmaker having said that Harpur's bricks were no good.
Harpur got broke and left the place.
    How the bricks were made.
The clay was mixed like mortar and it required great mixing. There was a mould shaped like a brick into which the brick clay was put. When partially dry and hard it was taken out and looked something like turf.
Tom Neilll says they were great bricks and hopes to have a sample when I call again.
