Name of District - Carrik Leck - Carraigh na Leice
Situation - North Meath close to Cavan, Monaghan Louth borders.
The material, in general, was obtained from my Mother, now deceased, and would probably be lost - hence my inclusion of it here.
List of words used in family conversations and their meanings. These words were in actual use.
Uisgelaya - milk diluted with water
Casnara - applied to a delicacy laid aside in case a visitor would call unexpectedly.
Doort (Do-Rat) Something extra given to a neighbour as a "print" of butter put floating in a can of buttermilk.
Poltóg - A useless piece of cloth
Poutóg - A cloth used to blindfold a "Brada" cow.
Brada - Thieving - applied to cattle that trespass .
Leisgh - One sided - as weighed down by carrying a heavy basket on one arm.
Bacan - A pig - applied mostly to peg for rabbit snare
Baca - Lame - Such a person has a baca leg.
Bronntonas - A "hand over" - a present
Brash - A tern at the churning
Labog - a spoilt fellow - a good for nothing
