    With large and sinewy hands."
    The local forge is not situated beneath a chesnut tree, but it is beside a crossroads where almost all country forges are seen. I often went to this busy interesting spot, and I would like to stay for hours looking on at the different work. Putting shoes on horses is not always an easy task. While I was there one day a horse plunged and became so restless that the blacksmith almost lost his temper, but yet he got control over the animal and shod him. He was only a young horse. I heard the blacksmith say that he hoped he would not have that trouble with him any more. Another helper was there too and I saw him repairing a mowing machine. Some part of it was worn or broken. I do not know which and he took it out and reddened
