    It was customary to give a night's lodging to "travellers" on the road...

    It was customary, to give a night's lodging to "travellers" on the road - Thomas McCourt of Stamullen used to give a bundle of straw to them to make a bed, and they would get lodging in some of the neighbouring houses.
    One one occassion an old woman came to the late Mrs. Jame Clarke who at the time was living down the land behind the graveyard in the village. The old woman sat at the fire and told Mrs Clarke
