  1. This story was told by Thomas Collins of Heathtown, Stamullen. He is about sixty five years of age, is a gardener in Harbourstown. He has spent his lifetime in this district, and heard those stories in his youth from his father.
After Cromwell left Drogheda he arrived at the mansion of Peppards of Ballygarth.
He did not know where he was, but made inquiries from Mr. Peppard as to where was Ballygarth. Mr Pepperd replied that it was a long distance away. Hearing this, Cromwell thought that it was too far away and his steed and those of his company were tired. He accordingly told Mr. Peppard that if he got a fresh steed he would not visit Ballygarth. He procured the horse and returned.
