Unpublished "village poetry" written by Johnstown Bard about year 1875

Unpublished "village poetry" written by "The Johnstown Bard" about year 1875
"Be old when young", you know the rest
As sailors know the East from West
While oer the treacherous deep they sail
When calm and sunshine doth prevail
Or when the moon with face unveiled
Looks smiling oer the heights she scaled
    In glory bright and dignity
A Queen on land as oer the sea
"Be wise in time" A grand advice
That all our youngsters wont entice
The grey-heads may be fools, but they are bright and strong and wise and gay
    They have amassed such wisdom
What will they be when age comes on
When wrinkles furrow oer their brow
They'll shine as sages never shone
And Solomon with all his wit
Would seem a goose to each tomtit.
