- The following is a custom which prevails in Co. Meath. When a widower re-marries soon after his first wife's death or if he is unpopular, the young men of the locality gather around the house at night and "horn" him. That is they blow "horns". These "horns" are generally bottles with the bottoms cut off. This is sometimes kept up for a fortnight or more. When a man goes on his honeymoon he is not "horned" until he comes home. Sometimes this custom leads to trouble.
