    stones for grinding the corn but those who could pay sent it to the mill to be ground. Each Monday sufficent bread was made for the week and it was a great treat to get hot potatoe cake for tea.

  2. Our ancestors were able to make many different kinds of bread such as oaten break, levened bread, potatoe cake, and slim bread.
    Oaten bread was made from oaten meal, milk, salt and a little sugar.
    When kneaded well it was put standing on a gridiron in front of the fire until baked well.
    Levened bread from wheaten meal and just about a teap spoon of sugar and a little baking powder, warm water was added instead of milk. It was put
