  1. Once there lived in Drogheda a man and woman in a little cottage. They had a baby and there also lived a lodger in the house. The child was very quiet at first but after a while it was always crying and it never ceased from morning night. Nothing would make it stop and the mother was very annoyed. It was a different child altogether from the quiet child it used to be.
    One day the mother and father went to the market and the lodger was minding the child. He took out his fiddle and began to play it to try and stop the child from crying. All of a sudden he stopped crying and sat up in his cot and said "I will dance to the tune on your fiddle if you do not tell them when they come home." The man was alarmed but he managed to say "All right I wont tell them." So out hopped the baby and danced around the room.
    Then they heard steps on the doorstep and he leaped back into the cot and started crying once more. The man was at his wits end what to do for he knew it was a fairy and everywhere he went the child was always looking at him. One day the lodger left the house and after a while he met the father of the child on the street and he told him all that happened. They resolved to make the fairy tell where real child was. Later that day the mother went out to do some shopping and the father and the lodger
