There were various hedge-schools in our district in olden-times, in Belpatrick, Collon, Co Louth.

There were various hedge-schools in our district in olden-times, in Belpatrick, Collon, Co Louth, there was one held near to where the present school stands, the pupils were taught in a kind of shed, by a man named ____ who used come every day from a place called Sandpit near Drogheda.
This same teacher taught at another hedge school on Mc Ginn's lane of the Ardee Rd. Collon Co Louth, this school was held in a kind of hut built in a dug out by the side of a raised field, this place was afterwards turned into a lime kiln.
