    Here are two examples of how a boy and girl was married long ago.

    was lying on the floor, three times, and it was said that they were married, and that the law couldn't break it.
    Another one called the Teltown marriage, which was done in Teltown in Co Meath. The girls used be gathered downstairs, while the men went upstairs, and dropped the ring down through the hole, in the ceiling, and whichever of the girls the ring fitted was married to that man for a year and a day.
    One of the old marriage customs was,- when the wedding party was coming home ofter the wedding, when they'd come in sight of the brides house someone would jump out of the car, and run in, and get a bottle of whiskey
