    Many are the moates, or raths, which may be seen around this district, and the following are some of them.

    A round heap of earth in this district, usually found with a thorn bush growing on top is called a "moat", this when found on any farm is considered lucky, and would on no account be disturbed by the owner as it is said bad luck would follow.
