- (Written when a number of farmers in Stonetown had invested in a new sprayer, shortly after the practice of spraying potatoes had been introduced)Ye farmers of Louth, take a piece of advice:
If you want to have spuds that will taste sweet and nice,
Now is the time, when the leaves are green,
To give them a dab of the Stonetown machine.I met a man on the road with a hump on his back.
He hadn't much time to sit down for a crack.
When I thought he was humpy it's there I was green -
On his back he had fastened the Stonetown machine.Don't forget the Champion, so faithful and true,
The large Up-to-Date, and the sweet Skerry Blue,
The Beauty of Bute, and the fine British Queen -
Give them all a good dash with the Stonetown machine.Here's a health to the Shamrocks, the pride of our isle,
When you take off the skin they would cause you to smile,
Till the days of November they're sure to keep green.
And they don't give a damn for the Stonetown machine.
