- Fionn used to be very fond of hunting. After his morning meal he used to take his big deerhound and go hunting through the woods and mountains. This hound of his "was never -bet-" in the chase. But one day, before he was out hunting very long, he saw a deer and set his hound on him. Before a half mile's run the hound had caught up on the deer, but the deer taking courage soon left the hound behind and the hunt went on till deer hound were out of sight. Crossing the mountain, Finn searched and called for his hound in vain. At long last he came across his dead body. The hound must have been killed by a fall from a high rock on the mountain side. When he saw his dead favourite hound, Finn, for the only time in his life, shed -tears- and from that day on the mountain was called Slieve(continues on next page)
