  1. The people in former times did not wear boots until they were sixteen years of age and others who never wore them at all.
    There was a man named Thomas Rooney, a native of Kilcroney who never wore boots.
    Children go barefooted to school in summer.
    Some of the old people put a cinder in the water after washing their feet.
    Boots are made locally.
    Barney Byrne from Louth used to make boots and he was the nearest shoemaker.
    This has been a tradition in his family. He has been a shoemaker for the last eighty years.
    The names of the shoemakers that time was John Murtagh and Rat Callen.
    The factories have got so common at this time the shoemakers are not needed.
    Clogs were made locally at that time. Mc Cann from Dundalk used to make the clogs.
    Clogs are not worn locally. The leather was not made in the district at any time.
