- My Home Townland
My home is in Glyde Farm, it got its name from the river Glyde.
The townland was one farm at one time and it was divided.
Some of the houses are slated and more of them are thatched.
There are ten families living in the townland, and five are over seventy.
There is only one house in ruins. Some of the people went to live in different townlands and one family went to live in America.
The land is fairly hilly, it is not boggy but good.
There is a big wood growing in the townland and it takes eight or nine acres of ground under it. The land is very sandy in some places and some people get sand and gravel in it.
The names of the woods are ‘The Oak’ ‘The Ash’ and ‘The Waterfalls’.
The wood grows very near to our house and there are some trees in the wood and no one knows the names of them. There is a stream in the wood and the old people say there is a cure in it. There is a well rising in the middle of the stream and the water in it is very good.
