  1. Care of Our Farm Animals
Pigs are called "Gush Gush" and sheep are called "gove-se, gove-se".
The cowhouse is called a stable and in each stable there is a manger for the cow to eat her hay or turnips from.
The cowhouse has to be kept clean and it has to be whitewashed and disinfected often.
A donkey's shoe is fastened to the door of the byre to bring luck.
The names of our horses are Billy, Bob, Prince and Paddy.
The horses are tied with a strap by the neck. Every horse is in a stall.
The dog and the cat are generally kept in the house. But the dog has work to do outside also.
People say "yeh" when calling a dog and when they want him to go away they say "Be off" with you.
A cat is very fierce sometimes and will scratch and tear.
The cow is supposed to give more milk when the milker sings a tune to her.
People put Saint Brigid's crosses in the byre to bring good luck.
Sometimes people ring their pigs so that they will not root up the ground when they are let out in a field.
