  1. The patron Saint of Louth is Saint Mochta. He was not an Irish man but when Saint Patrick was coming back to Ireland on his mission some companions joined him in Great Britian and among these was Saint Mochta. When he landed he chose Louth for the scene of his labours. He built a monastery here and a great school grew around it, and it is a very old graveyard now. There was a lot of land attached to the monastery. At the bottom of the field in which the monastery was built there is a stream called the Friars Stream.
One night Saint Mochta was out late and when he came back the gates of the monastery were locked and he could not get in. He lay down in the field beside the monastery and he slept for three hundred years and when he awoke he went to the monastery and the monks would not let him in. He lay down in the field again and the Blessed Virgin built the house over him. The house is here now. It contains one room upstairs and one down stairs. Every body who goes into the house and upstairs is supposed to write her name on the wall
