  1. There are two graveyards in Louth, a very old one and a new one.
The old graveyard is inside, and without, the ruins of the old monastery which Saint Mochta built in the time of Saint Patrick. It is still in use, but there are no empty graves in it. They are all full. People from other districts come to bury in Louth old graveyard. It slopes to the north east. There are old stones placed over some of the graves and the dates are worn off. There are flat stones over some of the graves and the dates are cut out on them; the oldest is 1734.
There is a vault on one side of the graveyard, and there is a cave in the yard also. Inside the walls there are very old-fashioned graves. When it rains the blood of the monks can be seen on the walls, as when Cromwell ruined the monastery he killed the monks. There is a very big head stone in it which is supposed to grow a foot every year.
