  1. During the Famine Times the people used to make colcannon for their supper on Hallow Eve night
    The men worked for twopence and threepence a day building ditches.
    There is a pot in Benagh in which Indian stirabout was boiled to feed the people
    The potato crop was bad because the potatoes were set in the same ground for many years in succession. When the people were setting potatoes they cut out the eye of each potato and set it. They used the rest of the potato for eating.
    The people eat hard oaten bread without butter.
    During the Famine times many people emigrated to America while many of the more unfortunate ones
