- A man named Owen McGrath who lived in Loughanmore threw a shoulder stone a distance of three quarters of a mile from Giles Quay to Riverstown.
A man named Dan Ferguson a native of Gyles Quay threw a stone a distance of two or three miles into the sea. He was the only man who could throw it.
- The McEntee family won a boatrace at the Gyles Quay Regatta in the year 1922. They rowed from the pier for a couple of miles out in the bay. Their father also won several prizes for boat racing.
