We have a churn at home. It is four feet. It is round in shape and is twenty years old. The parts are the churn staff and the lid. Butter is made once or twice a week. If any strangers come in when churning they give a hand and say "God bless the work" because this is a custom. During churning the dash is moved up and down and when the butter is churned they move the dash round to seperate the butter from the milk. Churning takes from half an hour to an hour. The churning is done by hand. When the butter is done they put it into a wooden basin. They salt the butter and put it into prints.

  2. When the butter is churned it is lifted out of the churn into what is called a "cop" with two small buttered spades. Then the buttermilk is washed out of it with water, but sometimes it is squeezed out of it with the butter-spades. It is then salted and the salt is mixed well through it so as no part of it will be left unsalted. Sometimes it is made into oblong-shaped lumps
