    It is said to be 4 years bad luck if you hit anybody with a boo-tree stick, and it is unlucky to go in under a ladder.
    Irish people say red haired people are unlucky and it is said that if a red haired person goes into the house first on New Year's day it is very unlucky.
    A crowing hen is really unlucky, old people say. A whistling maid and a crowing hen never were lucky since time began.
    If you see a cat with her back to the fire and a blue blaze in the fire it is the sign of a storm.
