  1. St Bridgets cross is made of straw or rushes and wood. it is hung near the door or window. It was believed it would keep away sickness from the house. The cross was blessed in Feabruary sometimes near St Valentines day. Sometimes the straw was mixed with rushes and plaited together to make the cross.
    St Bridgets cross is very common in some districts to this day.
