  1. In the year 1847, a large house near Miltown Malbay was taken up as a poor house and papures were put in there and a good many of them died.
    One day a child fell into a pot of porridge and the paupers had to eat it. And when they were eating it they found the hair and the bones of the child.
    The man who had the conytract for rmoving the dead to Ballard and Kildioma burial ground had to divide the loads at the foot of Ballard hill.
    The old people say that they heard the people moaning in the coffins when they used to be bringing them to the graves.
