  1. Long ago when the Christians were persecuted and hunted from Quin Abbey they came to the Cúilneac. The Friars that came there built little huts and the old ruins are to be seen to-day.
    The monks who came there tilled their own gardens, and made their own clothes. The reason they settled there was because it was a lonesome backward place situated to the north of Doolough lake.
