  1. An (The) home old industry in this locality was the (an) manufacture of flannel.
    At first the wool was shorn off the sheep.
    It was then washed at the river and spread out in a clean place to dry.
    Then it was gathered up into bags and combed - that is to say it was opened out.
    Next it was brought to the mill to be carded where it was made into rolls.
    It was brought home again and spun by friends and neighbouring women and girls into thread with a flannel wheel.
    This thread was made into balls.
    The balls were warped in the warping tree and made into hanks.
    A warping tree is two large planks of timber against the wall of the house with rungs on them.
    These hanks were sent to the weaver to be woven.
    Then it was woven into flannel by the weaver.
    When it came home it was made into various sorts of wearing apparel such as bawneens, quilts, suits, dresses, etc.
