  1. One of the oldest trades in Sráid na Cathrach , was the hand loom weaver.
    The farmers used to sow flax and then it would be pulled and put into a boghole for some time.
    After a while it would be taken up and spread along a clean hill to be bleached.
    When it would be bleached, it would be gathered up in bundles.
    They they used to break it up with a "bittle" to knock off the bad part of it.
    A number of girls would each have a cloven tongs for cleaning the flax
    Later on the women used to spin it into thread and then they used to take it to the weaver.
