  1. "Here lies the body of Colonel Augustine Fitzgerald of Moy Castle who died November 1776, and of his wife Mrs. Fitzerald who died Nov. 1779 and of their son Norman who died an infant.

  2. It is said that long ago there lived a great Irish scholar in Liscannor by the name of Aodh Buidhe Mac Cuirtán. There was another great scholar in west Clare and one day the two of them appointed to have a challenge the following Sunday. The man from the west was to come to Aodh Buidhe's house. About a half an hour before the man had appointed to come Aodh Buidhe dressed in a servant boy's clothes. He put on a torn trousers and an old frock. He went over the road driving cows and when he reached the field where the cows were to be put into, he saw the stranger coming towards him with a white horse and a chariot. He thought Aodh Buidhe was a servant boy and he said to him:-
    "Do you know where here around does Aodh Buidhe Mac Cuirtán lives?
    "Oh! indeed I do I'm his servant boy," said Aodh Buidhe.
    "Is he at home to day?" asked the stranger.
    "No!" said the servant boy "he is gone on a journey to day",
