The famine did awful damage in this place. ...

The famine did awful damage in this place. There is an old quary called Ballinafad and an old road leading down to it. The old people said there was 75 houses around there and there is not one in it now. Every morning when the potatoes were up the people got up a six o'clock and got potatoes and milk for breakfast. This place is full of ruins of old houses. The people long ago were far better than the people nowadays.
