(58 years) - There is a Blessed well in Glanquin called St. Patrick’s well. It cures sore eyes and warts. It is in the middle of a leact of stones and an ash tree growing beside it. This story is told about it.Lucas, a Protestant who owned the lands round the well had employed men from the neighbourhood to cut trees and bushes that had overgrown the land. As the men were coming near the well they did not cut the tall tree growing over it, and Lucas asked them why they did not cut the tree. They replied that it was a blessed tree belonging to ‘Tobar Phadraigh’. He rediculed them for their ‘superstition’ and took an axe himself. In doing so he missed his object and the blow of the axe hit his shin bone and broke it.Collected by: - Seán Pelcington,Lemeneigh.
