Tomhaiseanna
Four little bottles on the side of a hill they
are all turned down but cannot spill?
(Four tits of a cow.)
Over the fire and under the fire and never
touches the fire?
(A cake of bread in an oven.)
Genny inside the wall, Genny outside the
wall if you go near Genny she will bite you?
(A nettle.)
As black as ink as white as milk, and it
hops off the wall like hail-stone?
(A magpie.)
A bottomless barrel shaped like a hive full
of flesh and the flesh is alive?
(A tailor’s thimble on him.)
As round as a marble as deep as a cup, and
all the men in the world not take it up?
(A well.)
Over water I did travel, under water I did stand,
I rode a mare that never foaled and I carried
the bridle in my hand?
(A ship.)
Around the house around the house three
times naked, if yours will not stand mine
will make it?
(A candle in a candlestick.)
